I keep reading here and learning around my brand-new truck. My recent surprise is finding the end the fuel filter is inside the tank rather than inline.

My '88 Chevy necessary 5 inline filter replacements end 87,000 mile (first one at 3000). I had actually to change the pump just prior to trading. The price for instead of the pump (tank removal) was around $500 compared to a $12 DIY filter job.
Why the helll would GM placed the filter inside? ns hope I'm absent some innovation that renders filter transforms a point of the past, however I can't imagine what. I'm involved this is walking to it is in an ongoing issue as long as I own the truck. Also if the new filters go twice as long, it's tho a tank removal task (and tow) every 30,000 miles.
What's the consensus? Anybody had actually a clogged filter in their '04 or newer truck?

Lifetime components are great marketing - consumers think they're saving money by not having actually to have the part serviced, dealers still charge the same rates as as soon as they did company the component during program maintenance, and the manufacturers charge more for the instead of parts.
Everybody wins other than us
If you take the filter out of the tank then the pump will certainly pump dirty fuel and also die quickly. The returnless device is really trouble free. Not waste the moment or money, plenty of trucks & car have way over 150K top top OEM set up pumps.
'pineland' there ~ no money in fuel filters that YOU deserve to change, take it it to the good ole GM Goodwrench! but you can take the one the end of her tank and add one yourself if girlfriend desired.
